Tips to increase results:
- Usually 8 shot and an open choke work best.
Study the flight of each target to determine the optimal point to pull the
trigger, so when more than one target is thrown you can quickly acquire the
first target, giving extra time for the second. Also, if you miss the first target
you can use your second shot on that same target instead of going after
the second target, and your chance of scoring a 1 instead of a 0 may
be greater.
5-stand is an exciting clay target sport, where targets are presented from
several machines at various angles, elevations, and speeds.
Shooters start at one of the 5 stands and remain there, then each participant
shoots in turn until each has shot 5 times. Then they move to the next stand.
Each stand has a menu card that will advise the shooter of which targets
are to be thrown.
Perfect scores in 5-stand are rare, but it's an excellent practice for bird hunting.
