1. What are your shooting interests?
My main interests are Trap and Skeet.
3. What is your biggest shooting challenge?
There is not a particular station that is troublesome for me. I can miss anywhere. Sometimes I'm a crack shot. Other times I shoot like I'm on crack. I've had periods of time when high 1 was an issue and even low 7. The issue for me is not to think too hard. I start measuring my leads when out of practice. Not being naturally athletic, when I haven't shot for a while, I have to re-establish hold points, swing speed and stance over a few rounds.
2. How did you get interested in shooting?
I've really never not been interested, As a kid in a small town in Arkansas I was part of a roving band of neighborhood BB gun shooters. No one thought anything of it at the time. As we grew up we made the natural progression as parents allowed, to .22s and then to shotguns.
4. What advice would you give new shooters about the sport?
Don't worry too much about the gear for a while. Just learn the fundamentals. After some experience and exposure you'll make better purchasing decisions. Don't buy anything for the sake of "snob appeal."
It won't help your score.
5. What is your most embarrassing shooting moment?
Most of my embarrassments are from pulling. I lack the presence of mind for that. I'll never pull for anything critical. There are only 3 buttons. It shouldn't be that hard but several times on 8 I've sent a low bird when somone is facing the high house. More than once people have taken the controller from me. I think I was ADD Before ADD was cool.
6. What is your greatest shooting accomplishment?
I've shot a few 25's and been on some winning league teams and I've shot some respectable registered rounds. I hope to do more of that. I've made some really memorable (to me) shots on pheasant, quail, duck and dove while hunting that I know, I would not have made without shooting at the club on a regular basis.
7. What is your favorite firearm to shoot and why?
I have two of the Remington 1100 Special Fields. One in 12 and one in 20 gauge. They have English stocks, 21" barrels and open chokes. Very fast pointing. I have Straps on them so I can have my hands free for other things like the collar controller when hunting with my dog.
8. If you could choose 5 people in the world to be on your shooting team who would they be and why?
Ted Nugent for one. I admire his values and his work. After shooting we could discuss guitars which is another interest of mine. I would also like to have Sarah Palin which probably says something abut my political beliefs and then my Dad because he's always fun to be around and never sems to have a bad day. After those three I would take Jeff Bradford for Scores and Scott McAuley for plucky comic relief.
9. Tell us a little about you, where you work, other hobbies, family etc. whatever you would like to share.
My other hobby is music. I play several instruments, and have a group of friends I loosely refer to as my band. we mostly play Oldies and Classic Rock and a little R and B. I really love smooth Jazz but can't find the musicians to go with me down that road.
I work in outside sales for Partsmaster from Dallas. We sell industrial maintenance repair products such as fasteners, abrasives, specialty welding supplies, and cutting tools. Lately I've begun to specialize in epoxy surface repair products. I have been at this since 1992 but quit for a couple of years (2000-2001) to try something else. I like my job because I'm liable to be in a coal mine one day, a refinery the next, and then working with the Corp. of engineers at a lock and dam, or maybe I'll be at a county barn or schoool bus garage. there is something different to do every day some of my customers are regulars I've known since the early 90's.
I have my wife, Nyna, three grown children and one granddaughter, she is one and a half but already seems to love the outdoors. I can't wait to teach her how to shoot.
What is my favorite bumper sticker?
"Guns cause crime like flies cause garbage".
"Safety is everyones business"
Safety glasses and ear protection mandatory in all shooting areas.
