Meet

Meridith Nix

1. Meridith how did you get interested in Shooting ?

Ever since I was little, I would go with my dad to TGC and be the puller for the round. I saw how much fun he was having and it looked like something I would want to do. He taught me to shoot when I was 8 or 9. My Dad  is a gunsmith and he shortened the stock and shortened the barrel so it wouldn't be so heavy and it would fit me better. We would go out every weekend and shoot and as time went on, I got better at it.

2. What is your biggest skeet shooting challenge?

Staying focused and concentrated in a competition. When I shoot with friends the atmosphere is light and we are laughing and joking and I shoot good then. But when in a competition staying focused is my biggest challenge.

3. What advice would you give a new skeet shooters about the sport?

I would say find people who are willing to help you, teach you the basic fundamentals of skeet shooting and no matter what, keep your eyes on the target, head on the stock and keep swinging the gun.

4. What is your most embarrassing skeet shooting moment?  I really don't have one.

5. What are your shooting accomplishments?

In skeet, I have 3,  50 straights. I shot 50 perfect birds, 2 rounds and did this 3 times. I did this at the Sand Springs Gun Club and the Tulsa Gun Club. One of these was Dec.31, 2004 and the others were in 2005. I have acquired lifelong friendships with many people. I feel like those I shoot with are family. Over the Years, it's not going out just to shoot; It's goung out to be with those you love to be around.

6. Tell us a lilltl about yourself, your work, hobbies, family Etc. Whatever you would like to share.

I work with my dad in his two businesses. He repairs printing equiptment and is a gunsmith. My mother and father both support me in my shooting. I have started teaching my 2 nephews how to shoot skeet. I really enjoy teaching and shooting with them. I love the expression on their faces when they hit a target. Everytime they are here with me they want to go shooting. I also love shooting with my dad as he is the one who taught me. Not having him shoot with me, I don't have as much fun. I also shoot rifles, pistols & trap- a little bit of sporting clays. My favorite pistol is a 45 ACP and a 44 magnum.
