SCTP News
With the 2011 SCTP youth season winding down as the summer comes to an end we have again seen our shooters prove their abilities at a few recent shoots.
Seven SCTP members of the Sooner Shooters attended the National Skeet Shooting Junior World Skeet shoot in Nashville Tennessee this past August and they brought home a total of 17 medals for their skeet shooting skills in 12, 20, 28 and .410 shotgun classes as well as awards in High Overall scores and individual champion awards.
At the Oklahoma State Skeet Shoot Jay Gilbertson, Tess Decker, and Joshua Guess from the Tulsa Gun Club, along with Logan Ward from Oklahoma City and Jake Ratcliffe from Ardmore dominated the shoot this year, garnering first and second place awards in every category. At the shoot, Jake Ratcliffe was awarded the high overall score in the 28 gauge competition, the youngest person to ever have won a gun championship in Oklahoma at the age of 13. Joshua Guess (12) was awarded runner up in the .410 gun champ competition, second only to Mr. Craig Wasson, a veteran shooter from Oklahoma City.
As the 2011 season is winding down I am continually impressed by the shooting ability of our Oklahoma Youth. I expect next year will be even better, with our team poised with its best chance ever to claim a #1 spot in the U.S. at the SCTP Nationals next year.
We plan to begin the 2011/2012 season with practices beginning the first Saturday of November (5th). We practice from 10:00 a.m. until noon each Saturday as long as weather permits.
If your child is interested in participating in the competitive shooting sports, please contact either myself or Monte Decker about joining the SCTP team at the Tulsa Gun Club. I can guarantee that your child will learn gun safety, teamwork, respect, and gain shooting ability from the experience; and they will get to shoot with some of the best shooters in the state while becoming a great shooter themselves.
I look forward to the best season yet and would love to see you there.
